Vaucoupin is a sunny, south and west facing right-bank climat, south of Chablis. This premier cru shows many of the characters associated with the limestone and dry white clay found here - a certain austerity matched with a touch of smoky reduction. Although certainly not as weighty as might be expected from Vaucoupin's sunny position, this is an elegant, cool Chablis with plenty of ageing potential. Drinking Window 2022 - 2027.

Tasting Note:

This comes from one of the best sited of the 1er Crus – on quite a steep southerly facing vineyard planted in fragmented Kimmeridgian limestone, there is literally no visible soil in the Oudin’s vineyard. It comes from 50yo vines, has a gunflint quality on the nose, then ripe citrus fruits with a marked salty, chalky flavour on the palate.

About Domaine Oudin

The Domaine Oudin came to be in the late 1980s when Jean-Claude and Christine Oudin left the stress of Paris life behind and settled near the bridge in Chichée to raise their two daughters and to develop a small 5 acre vineyard they had inherited near Chablis. Today, the daughters, Nathalie and Isabelle, oversee almost 20 acres of Chardonnay. From the outset, theirs has been a natural viticulture, respectful of the environment, and a style of winemaking that is at once simple and modern.
