In commemoration of 10 years of Domaines Barons de Rothschild (Lafite)’s work in Chile, the first “grande cuvée” LE DIX was created. Le Dix de Los Vascos originates from 70-year-old vines located in the terroir known as “El Fraile”.

This is a wine of exceptional complexity, balance and elegance, with powerful tannins and aromas of very ripe fruit accentuated by spicy notes of cedar, laurel and eucalyptus.

Vivino: 4.2/5

Wine Enthusiast: 92pts

"Complex aromas of mocha, oak grain and chocolate boost scents of berry fruits and cassis. The jammy palate offers several layers of blackberry, chocolate and spice flavors. A steady finish with no peaks or valleys keeps this tasty number on path. Drink through 2025." MICHAEL SCHACHNER

Tasting Notes (At bottling):

Le Dix 2015 has a beautiful ruby red color. Gorgeous aromas of raspberry and ripe cherry intermingle with notes of black pepper, cocoa, walnut skin, graphite, tobacco, and cedar.
On the palate, this magnificently balanced wine presents a harmonious structure, with refined tannins. A truly elegant offering.

About the 2015 vintage of this wine

The season started with a normal winter, with around 400 mm of rain and no sub-zero temperatures. Hot weather in the early spring offered a taste of what was to come in the summer, i.e. high temperatures and an absence of frost. The summer saw record highs of 39.6ºC in February and 39.2ºC in March.

"Being pioneers in Chile was an exciting challenge, and we have chosen a superb location.” - Baron Eric de Rothschild

Domaines Barons de Rothschild (Lafite) took over the Los Vascos estate (Los Vascos meaning The Basques, in honour of its Basque origins) in 1988. At the time, the property extended to some 2,200 hectares, of which 220 hectares were planted with vines. The pioneering ambition of DBR in Chile was above all the result of extensive research into the potential of local wines. Many properties were visited and many wines were tasted before choosing Los Vascos, because of its location near the ocean and its exceptional soil. Along with ideal weather conditions, Los Vascos benefits from intense exposure to the sun, adequate water sources, semi-arid soils and little risk of frost. At an average of 130 m above sea level and at just 40 kilometres from the Pacific Ocean, the microclimate of Viña Los Vascos has everything to produce fine wines.
